Subject: No More 5:30AM

Greetings to all my long time GM fellow employees and associated friends.  As you may have guessed from the subject line I have elected to retire effective October 1.  I have the necessary years with 33+, the age, and the current voluntary enhanced retirement package is just too good to pass up.  Helping GM through the bankruptcy transition was a very trying experience.  But I will now dwell on all the great memories of the 100's of fantastic people I have interfaced with through the years.  I have left my mark on GM Service and have a short summary attached.

The world being what it is surely some of our paths will cross again.  I will remain in Michigan for some time as my roots are here and my wife won't be eligible for retirement until June of 2011.

Feel free to contact me anytime at the address information below.  Make sure you change your address book to my personal e-mail noted below. rmsavo@ameritech.net

Best of luck to all of you in your work and family life.  Please keep in touch.

My goodness, Bob, it certainly WON'T be the same.

Your influence on GM has been profound.

You may remember our early conversations in which I said to you "Please don't retire or leave."
Well, I can't blame you for taking advantage of the current offers.
You've certainly "done your duty".

I will add your message to your page of our Buick Reliability and Quality Control Conference Call Group, www.buickdotcom.com  for all to refer to for some inspiration as needed.

Your leaving is like a death in the family.

Please take care of yourself.
One of the first things I noticed when I got out of the Army and first hired into GM's Buick Zone Office in NYCity in 1959 was that the pattern was "retire, wait 2 or 3 years, die".
So be forewarned that retiring from GM ain't good for your health!!!

There aren't words to thank you for all you have done for GM and all of us associated with it.

My friend Bob Lutz got called back, so who knows.
